Bastian Eisele at the NYU Wireless Institute
In November and December 2023, I got the opportunity to visit the NYU Wireless Institute at New York University. The institute is located at MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn, very close to many famous sights such as the Brooklyn Bridge. NYU Wireless is an academic research center focusing mainly on wireless communications, sensing, networking, and devices.
At NYU Wireless, I had the chance to collaborate with Prof. Sundeep Rangan. Among many other fields, Prof. Rangan is an expert in my main field of research, Compressive Sensing, where he pioneered the Vector Approximate Message Passing algorithm. His help and guidance greatly contributed to my progress throughout my research stay. Furthermore, I was warmly welcomed into his team and had many interesting discussions with his postdocs and PhD students. I got to join some exciting discussions and had the chance to visit some lectures for PhD students.
In addition to the academic experience, I also had a great time exploring New York City. Coming from a very small city and never having lived in a town larger than Erlangen, this was quite an experience. NYC is a very vibrant place and truly never sleeps. The city is very diverse and you can meet people from everywhere in the world, in fact, most of the people I met and spent time with actually weren’t from the US. While exploring the city you permanently find yourself in places familiar from movies or media.
Overall, my research stay at NYU was a great experience in both academia and free time. I am very grateful for having been given this opportunity.
