Interdisciplinary Hand Symposium
The EmpkinS Hand Symposium on October 4th & 5th, 2023, was an absolute success.
Our first interdisciplinary symposium originated from the collaborative efforts of two of our principal investigators (PIs), Dr. sport. science Dr. habil. med. Anna-Maria Liphardt and Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Sigrid Leyendecker, who share a common interest in the hand. As they discussed their respective research, movement science in rheumatology and computational mechanics and, dynamics, it became evident that a comprehensive exploration of the clinical, sensing, modeling, and visualizing aspects of the hand could greatly benefit from diverse perspectives. Sadly, people from these diverse fields usually do not meet at the same conferences or spaces. This realization prompted the idea of hosting an event that would bring together experts from various fields to delve into the multifaceted aspects of hand-related studies.
The symposium comprised approximately 10 presentations by various experts in the field, each diving into a diverse range of topics. Each talk was followed by a thoughtful and deserved discussion, the valuable contributions of these experts collectively transformed the event into an unforgettable and enriching learning experience for all attendees.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, contributed, and joined us in exploring the intricate world of hand-related studies. Your enthusiasm and dedication to the field are what made this symposium a resounding success! A special thank you goes also to our amazing host, the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light.
